Diesel
Generator
How
to select diesel generators and what are their uses?
There are reasons and very valid reasons at that, as to why so many
people are opting for diesel generators in place of other things. Let
me cite a few advantages of using diesel generators. Then the picture
will become clear for you.
Diesel has a
very high boiling point; it is oilier and heavier and possesses higher
energy density. Compared to other combustible stuff, it is not that
flammable. Diesel generators are tough, they can survive for longer
hours and provide back up for longer stretches of period at a single
stretch and hardly require much maintenance.
The manufacturers are nowadays coming out with modern varieties of
diesel generators which emit less noise. You will find the best use of
diesel generators in commercial buildings, industrial plants,
hospitals, agricultural applications, marine, and telecommunications
and in mining. There are 3 phase power generators and single phase
power generators.
Currently, you can avail of several types of diesel generators such as
larger industrial generators and small portable generators. Offices,
small shops and residential premises use large industrial generators
which range between 30 kva and 8 kva. 10 kva to 1 kva is the
range for smaller portable diesel generators. If you want to use diesel
generators for power stations, factories and large office complexes,
then diesel generators of 2000 kva or above are required.
The rate at which an ordinary diesel generator will run is 1800 RPM and
it is cooled by water. When you compare this kind of diesel generator
with gasoline ones, you will find that the former works for longer
periods and there is less maintenance involved. However diesel
generators have a rather high initial set up cost that might prove to
be prohibitive.
The only problem is that diesel generators cannot really boast of clean
burning as compared to other types of generators which run on fuel.
However, in spite of that many people will advise you to use diesel
generators as you can store them much more safely than gasoline. Hassle
free maintenance, big fuel savings and similarity to the function of
diesel engines are some of the plus points of using diesel generators.
Then there are 2 types that you can choose from. One is close frame and
the other is open frame. The close frame diesel generators are also
called silent generators which emit less sound and are used in
residential complexes. It can provide power back up for your lights,
microwave, TV, pumps and fridge. If you want power back up for heavy
loads like air conditioners, whole home heating, dryers and pumps, then
you have to take the help of larger diesel engine generators.
