Generators
What
Are The Different Types Of Power Generators?
All power generators are not created equal. There are power generators
that are cheap and then there are those power generators that are more
expensive. When you decide to get one you will need to be able to make
the distinction between the two. Also you will have to decide exactly
what you want out of it.
If you
simply want a power generator to keep your power running for a short
period of time there are low costs options for that. If you want a more
permanent solution then there are more expensive options for that as
well, to help you have a better understanding I am going to explain the
differences of the two main types of power generators.
A Portable Power Generator
A portable power generator is a low cost option for those who seek to
keep the main appliances in their home on during a power outage. They
are typically rolled out from storage and filled with the fuel source
they will use to run on. They can also be connected to a fuel line of
some sort. You have to manually start them and then connect the
appliances to them you want to run.
The only downside is that they are not designed to run for a long time.
You will have to refuel them constantly if you hope to have extended
power for your major appliances. So with this option you will save
money, but they are not really built for long term use in case of a
serious extended power outage.
A Standby Power Generator
A stand by power generator is a more expensive option for those looking
for a longer term solution to a potential power outage. When the power
in you home goes out they will start immediately. The stand by power
generator is already hooked up to your home wiring and to a fuel
source. They have an auto detector built into them that makes then
detect a power outage in a quick period of time.
In this case your main power is cut off from the grid so that
no harm can come to electrical workers who may be working to restore
the power outside. Once the power has been restored then the stand by
power generator cuts off and connects you back to the main power
source. But be warned this option can be costly.
Stand by power generators are for those who live in areas where there
is a frequent threat of loosing power. Portable power generators are
for those who live in areas where they do not occur to often, but even
still having one on hand can be nothing but beneficial.
